Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept & Review
Posted on October 20, 2020
Jeep's SUV range has long been admired for marrying off-road qualities to luxurious comfort and advanced technology. And while there are plenty of crossover models to choose from, and even a pickup bearing the Jeep badge, until now there hasn't been a three-row SUV catering to Jeep fans with a need for a larger vehicle.
The upcoming Grand Wagoneer Concept is aimed at filling the gap, but what features will it offer aside from that third row? The recent Jeep Grand Wagoneer reveal helps to shed some light on the likely specifications.
Imposing Exterior
From first glance, it's clear that the Grand Wagoneer is a SUV which means business. The emphasis is on chunky lines and square edges rather than streamlined curves. The wide-body is highlighted by a slimline grille and headlight strip paired to strong fender lines, which in combination with the 24" wheels creates a confident and imposing overall look.
Off-Road Legacy, Modern Technology
The Grand Wagoneer wouldn't be a Jeep without a strong set of off-road capabilities. The concept release includes Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system providing five drive modes to handle all conditions, along with Quadra-Drive 4WD, and independent four-wheel air suspension.
No solid powertrain details were provided in the concept reveal, but Jeep has confirmed that a powerful plugin hybrid system will be the highlight of the release, matching high performance to zero emissions and excellent fuel economy.
To go with the electric configuration, there's also likely to be a meaty V8 engine option, and possibly a high-torque diesel design to add generous towing capacity to the high standard of street performance.
Interior Technology
As a concept, the Grand Wagoneer is packed with high tech features throughout the interior. How many of these will make it to the production release is still uncertain, but with Jeep's reputation for advanced tech it's likely that most current features will be retained.
Highlights include a 12.3" instrument display, a 12.1" touchscreen for Uconnect 5 infotainment, and an additional 10.25" screen for climate and seat controls. And as if that wasn't enough, the passenger seat gets its own 10.25" infotainment screen, while the second row also boasts individual 10.1" screens.
This deluge of screens is backed up by a premium 23-speaker McIntosh audio system, decked out with aluminum trim and blue lighting for an added luxury feel. This luxurious audio system may be simplified for general release, although it's likely to be available as an option at higher price points.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer Pricing
As a concept reveal, the Grand Wagoneer doesn't yet have any confirmed pricing details. However, given the level of technology and the advanced plugin hybrid powertrain, it's likely that the SUV will be priced firmly in the luxury market, with Canadian starting prices likely to top $130k. But while that hefty price means the market is likely to be limited, there's no doubting the amount of car the cash will buy.
The Jeep SUV range is already one of the strongest on the market, particularly if the true off-road capability is a deciding factor. With the upcoming Grand Wagoneer, the company looks set to entrench their reputation even further.
